This past Sunday I ran the Gumbo Limbo Green Turtle 10k race in Boca Raton!
The race was really fun! I got second female finisher and sixth place overall!
The girl that beat me is a senior at FAU well actually she is older, she is from Germany and is like 26 years old and I raced against her twice during the Fall for cross country and she beat me both times. She is a good runner but I kind of feel like it is cheating since she is older and has more experience but oh well it can only make me stronger to race against better competition.
Also, not that I am using this as an excuse but the day before the race, I wasn't sure if we were running the race so I did a long run of about 12 miles where she did the typical pre race workout of just an easy 3 or 4 miles and so I was running on a bit of tired legs.
Also, I was upset after the race that she beat me again but my boss helped me put it into perspective in the idea that yes she may be better than me right now but she is getting better training than me right now. She is doing her workouts on a track with the guys and getting massage therapy and a couple of coaches guiding her. Where I am doing my workouts by myself on the roads and sidewalks on the island and most times, my coach is not there because she lives an hour away and me and one another girl are the only ones even running right now because everyone else is either supposedly hurt or quit the team. So put into that perspective I felt a little better!
Also one funny thing is that even though she beat me, we got the same exact prize, we got both got an embroided T-shirt and towel.
Here is a link that shows some photos from the event:

Meghan, I love how passionate of a runner you seem to be. I love running too! My school was a tiny, Christian school that I attended from 3k-12th grade, so we were all pretty close. We use to race each other often and compete on who was fastest. I have to add that I was 2nd fastest in my whole grade, but the fastest girl overall. It was a pretty big deal =P Haha, but I definitely agree that with better training you could take this girl on and leave her in your dust. What shoes are you wearing while running? Please be careful, running on concrete can really tear up your knees. I am more of a sprinter, well, I use to be till I got too busy and I am almost certain I am nowhere near as fast as I once was. The last time I sprinted with all my heart was when my dog and goat ran up the street with our miniature pot belly, and I had to get them so I would not be late to school. I live on a ranch, I promise it is not that weird. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog though!! Do you run along the intercoastal ever? I seriously love running and wish I had more time to do it. There is something about just popping in headphones and running for however long possible that really calms the soul. It is a great escape. Maybe that is why wild horses look so spirited and majestic when they run. If I believed in reincarnation and all of that (which I don't!), I would want to come back a wild horse. That's probably one of the weirdest comments I have ever made, but I can't say it isn't true. Keep up the good work, girl! I love it :)
Jocelyn
haahah Jocelyn! I love you! You're hilarious! You don't lose speed! I bet your still crazy fast you just have to start training again! But I know me too, I hate how busy we are, I have to wake up super early every morning to get my runs in but its what I love to do so its not a sacrifice b/c I would go crazy if I couldn't run!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know its super bad to run on pavement for my knees but I don't know what else to do! The only thing I have going for me is that I run on my toes and they say being light helps too b/c its not as much stress on the knee as say a 300 pound man running or something but I know I'm praying my knees will hold up and I switch up between brooks, aisics, and new balance shoes, whatever is on sale! I just need to get better at trading out my shoes more often because your supposed to trade out your shoes every 300 miles or about 3 months whichever comes first but I run so much that it makes it super short and I'm cheap and wait till their holes on the bottom haah!
But my grandpop and mom had a farm and I basically grew up on it too!! I loved it! I want to live in LA and be a broadcaster for e! news but then I also want a house out on a farm with lots of animals and grow my own veggies and eat the eggs from the chickens and stuff and have all of my meals on the front porch with my husband and kids as we watch the sun go down! Nothing else is better in the world!!
YEs I love running on the waterfront and yes I am soooo addicted to the runners high, it is the best feeling ever and we are extra spoiled down here with getting to look at the most beautiful landscapes ever as we run!
But nooo I completly agree with you about the wild horses!! They are the most beautiful thing ever! Theyre just so muscular and like you said just majestic, its like they are so confident in where they are going, they run with a purpose but yet look so happy and content! Haha! Also, have you heard the song "wild horses" i think its by natasha beddingfield!! Its such a pretty song!! youll love it! Thanks so much for all the support and following!! :)
You know we are Journalism majors when we write novels like this - my texts frequently look this way though, so I need to learn to tone it down some. I am glad you liked my post. Haha. Yes, I agree, with some training I am sure I will be back on my grind. I played basketball and soccer, so I was always tone and muscular. Once college started, that quickly ended and so did running as often as I had been. Lol, I hear you on going the cheap route. Hey, PBA is not exactly the cheapest school around...we all gotta sacrifice a little here and there. I hope they hold out for you while you have to deal with the pavement, but yes the lighter the better. Good thing you are only like 85lbs, there is not much weight slamming down on your knees ;)
ReplyDeleteE! News was something I was looking at as well! I want to do so much, I need to figure out where I want to focus my time, but a tv show hosts, especially with entertainment, is something I could totally see myself doing. Living in the country side would be amazing. I would eat the eggs my chickens laid, but when I did not have those anymore our neighbors would always give us a bunch from their chickens. The one thing I could never do that they do is kill the chickens and eat them. They handed me one to do once, there was no way. I could not even eat the chicken they killed and cooked for us because I would 'pet-sit' all their animals when they were away and I treat every pet like I would my own dog or cat or something. I could not stomach it. Haha...too much of an animal lover.
We are incredibly spoiled and I am going to miss it so much if I do move back down to Miami once I graduate in May, but at least it is not too far away and I have South Beach too, but the luxury of it being steps away is something I have grown to love.
And I just listened to the song, never heard it, but I love it. Thank you for sharing!! And I loved your similar rant on wild horses. I have always been kind of obsessed with them. :D
