The big event yesterday was St. Pattys day for most of the world but for me it was the fact that it was our first track meet. The meet was at FIU (Florida International University) and it was a meet honoring this former Student Athlete, Michael Felsberg. Which you can read about below. For the meet I ran the 1mile and the two mile race. I got second place in the 1 mile race and first place in the two mile race. Although that may sound good, the meet was pretty small so there was not that much competetion. I was not very happy with my times but now for the reasons I am telling myself its ok! You will learn that Running is a very mental sport so sometimes you have to convince yourself that you actually can run after not having a good race. First of all, the whole point of track season for me is just to get ready for Cross country in the Fall. Because track is just a club sport at PBA so we can't compete for any titles, just more like running for fun and practice. Also these were the longest events that this meet offered and the shortest distance I like to run is 3 miles. So for me it was a speed workout to run the 1 and 2 mile races yesterday. Also, I ran the one mile first and then had to wait around for two hours to run the two mile which is always hard because your legs tighten up, so the 2 mile was tough because my legs were sort of shot. Also, it was 86 degrees outside and we got there late so I didn't have much time to warm up and stretch after being stuck in a car for two hours. Finally, my last and final excuse is that I was super tired because I went to go and see the movie The
Adjustment Bureau with my boyfriend at night, so I didn't get to go to bed until 1 in the morning. But that is all part of balancing life and athletics and although I probably should have gotten more sleep, it is really important to me to hang out with the people I love in my life. So my family, friends, and family always comes first no matter what because when out temperal life is over nothing will carry over but we will have these realtionships and they will be with us in heaven. I included a review of the movie in the next post!!! It was weird and not exactly possible which is hard when a movie is about something that is not real, but overall I liked it and it had a good message!

Michael Felsberg (1977-2004)
|
Former cross country/track &field standout Mike Felsberg was taken from us in October of 2004 as he served as a second lieutenant with the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq. A true Panther, Felsberg was known and loved by both staff and student-athletes throughout his four years at FIU as he enthusiastically cheered on every team. He graduated from FIU in 2003 with a 3.9 GPA and was the Athletics President's Award recipient that year as the athlete with the highest GPA. A three-time winner of the Athletic Spirit Award, now named after him, Felsberg also earned Dean's List status in all eight semesters at FIU and was a four-time member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List. As a senior, Felsberg earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. In partnership with the University's Alumni Association, his parents, Paul and Arlene Felsberg, donated $100,000 to FIU's Athletics department, which was used towards the establishment of the Michael Felsberg Scholarship Endowment for Track & Field. |
